- Name a player who fits both labels of a square: the one beside it and the one above it.
- You have 9 guesses. Every guess counts, right or wrong.
- Each player can be used once, so he fills one square at most.
- Rarer picks score more: 1 to 3 points a square, 27 max.
- A new grid every day at midnight UK time.
How the Premier League Grid works
Each square sits beside one label and under another: a club, a stat, a big game, a position, an era or a teammate. Tap a square, search a player who fits both, and pick him. A wrong guess still uses one of your 9.
Squares
- Club and club: played at least one Premier League game for both clubs.
- Club labels: count Premier League games only. Champions League labels count Champions League games.
- Club and a stat, big game, position, era or teammate: played for the club, and fits the other label at any point in his career, not necessarily with that club. Raheem Sterling counts for Arsenal and Played in a CL final, from his final with Manchester City.
Labels
- 15+ PL goals in a season: scored 15 or more Premier League goals in one season.
- 20+ PL goals in a season: scored 20 or more Premier League goals in one season.
- Scored a hat-trick: 3 or more goals in one Premier League or Champions League match.
- Scored in the Champions League: at least one Champions League goal.
- Played a CL knockout game: played in the round of 16 or later (not the knockout play-off round).
- Played in a CL final: played in a Champions League final.
- Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Forward: the player's main listed position.
- Played in the 2000s, 2010s or 2020s: played at least one game in a season that started in that decade (2009/10 counts as the 2000s).
- Teammate of a star: played in the same match for the same club as him. The star himself doesn't count.
Scoring
- A right answer scores 1 to 3 points. A wrong one scores nothing and still uses a guess.
- Until 20 people have filled a square, points go by fame: its right answers are ranked by games played, and the best-known third score 1, the middle third 2 and the rest 3.
- From 20, the crowd decides: a player named by under 5% of people scores 3, under 25% scores 2, and anyone else 1.
- Your points are fixed when you guess. Nine 3s is 27.
Data
- Premier League games from 1992/93 and Champions League games from 2002/03 to now.
FAQ
Is this like Tiki-Taka-Toe?
It's the same idea: a 3x3 football grid where each square needs a player who fits both its labels. Ours is built from real Premier League and Champions League games since 2002/03, with 9 guesses, and rarer picks score more.
Does a team mean the whole franchise?
Yes. A team label covers the club under its current name. Club squares count Premier League games. Champions League labels count Champions League games.
Is it the same for everyone?
Yes. Everyone gets the same grid, with a new one at midnight UK time. Play another gives you a fresh practice grid that doesn't count.
Does it go on the leaderboards?
Signed in, today's grid does, and it counts in your leagues. Sign in the same day and a grid you played signed out moves to your account.
